A comprehensive consultation with one of our Board Certified, Fellowship-trained physicians is the next step in determining whether a Stem Cell procedure is right for you.  During these appointments we set aside at least 90 minutes for each patient so that our physicians are able to full evaluate your orthopedic injury and answer any questions you may have.  During your consultation you will meet with our friendly staff, watch a brief informational video presentation that helps summarize what treatment involves, meet with one of our Clinical Assistants and then visit in-depth with a physician. The physician will gather additional history related to your injury/pain,  perform an examination, review pertinent imaging, and in many cases perform an additional ultrasound examination.  Our Physician will then discuss customized and pertinent treatment options specific to your injury/pain. Lastly, we want to ensure you have ample opportunity to discuss any questions you may have any questions/concerns about treatment so you are making an informed decision that is best for you. If you are an out-of-town patient and find it difficult to travel for an initial evaluation, we will make accommodations to ensure that you are able to speak with a physician via phone as part of an initial evaluation to gain better understanding of whether a treatment at iOBX may be the best course forward for you.

Some of you are perhaps curious about what steps are taken following your treatment. After your treatment, we will work with you through a comprehensive post-procedural process that is tailored to your individual needs. To maximize healing and treatment benefits, you will be provided with a comprehensive post-procedural patient guide. This guide includes expectations, pain control, caring for the wound site, as well as physical therapy exercises for after the procedure. We will work closely with your physical therapist to ensure that your recover progresses in a gradual, linear, positive fashion. We will schedule a series of follow up appointments (at no additional cost) to assess your progress and ensure the healing process is going well as you transition back to doing the things you love to do.

The pre-procedure experience at iOBX is as important as it is educational. We begin the process by going over all the information the patient will need before, during, and even after treatment. We review medication interactions, go over details of treatment and sedation (if applicable), address any remaining treatment questions/concerns, review what to eat/wear the day of treatment. We comprehensively address each aspect of treatment day to alleviate any apprehensions you may have and ensure treatment is smooth and successful.

To collect live, healthy stem cells from your own body, physicians at iOBx use specific harvesting protocols to collect stem cells from strategic areas of the body where stem cells are known to abundantly reside. Most often stem cells will be collected from your posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS) which is commonly thought of as the back of your hip or buttock area.  Using advanced image guidance the area of entry is abundantly anesthetized (numbed) and a needle trochar is guided into the bone marrow. Using high pressure aspiration from multiple sites within the bone we are able to collect bone marrow containing “mega-doses” of mesenchymal stem cells. Collectively these integrated advanced harvesting techniques allow for collection of much higher quantities of healthy cells than physicians normally get with collection from bone marrow.
